Infographics are one of the hottest ways to create and share valuable content. Although their popularity has gone down slightly from when they first emerged on the marketing scene a few years ago, they still offer an amazing way to drive traffic to your website and create brand recognition.
You can create infographics for any topic you can possibly think of. Start by brainstorming ideas about what’s important to your audience; what type of information might they be looking for when they go online? The key is finding a topic that will strike an emotional chord with your audience, whether it’s a news-worthy topic or tips and advice they might find helpful.
So, obviously the first step in creating an infographic is to think of a topic to cover. Again, you want to draw on the emotions of your audience, so know what triggers their feelings and encourages them to think. The topic should be something in demand and relevant, but doesn’t necessarily have to be a “hot button” topic.

Once you have your topic in mind, start your research and content creation. You’ll need concise facts and data, because inaccurate information can harm your company’s reputation. Sources like the U.S. Census Bureau, UN Data and Google Public Data are all good places to start your research for your infographic. Make sure you keep a list of all your sources going; you’ll need to add those in at the conclusion of your infographic.
Tell a story with your infographic. People are more likely to talk about your brand as part of a larger story, too. If you grab your audience’s attention with an interesting, compelling headline and tell a unique story throughout the infographic, you’ll hold their attention from start to finish.
The graphics and visuals of your infographic are very important too, of course, but the content is the heart of it all. Without great content, the graphics and the infographic overall will not resonate with your audience.
