The Marketing Automation Strategist will own the strategy and implementation of marketing automation programs for their assigned client set. This includes, but is not limited to, the build out of email and SMS automation campaigns and triggered email journeys, including on-site and social media elements. Primary responsibilities focus on, but are not limited to, developing the initial campaign strategy (including workflow logic, criteria, integration needs, and messaging) and the subsequent build out of the components of email automation campaigns including email messages, lists, segments and automation logic along with supporting on-site and social media elements. Knowledge, understanding and adherence to best practices with our resident occupancy-driven verticals are essential.

  • Strategy & Execution
    • Translate client business needs, sales and marketing processes, and persona journeys into marketing automation programs tied to goals/KPIs
    • Build, test and deploy emails, landing pages, forms, pop-ups, campaign lists/segmentation and automation logic within marketing automation platforms
    • List maintenance and updates; creation of segments based on targeting criteria
    • Write and/or review compelling subject lines, preheaders and email copy
    • Identify opportunities for optimization and setup A/B tests and other mechanisms to improve performance
    • Regularly review performance and assist in pulling metrics for reporting; document insights on performance and recommend next steps. Incorporate these opportunities into iterative improvements to goals, KPIs and ROI
    • Test/QA all emails and landing pages before launch for accuracy, tracking and readability across devices and email service providers
  • Client Delivery
    • Support new client setup through initial platform provisioning process and technical setup of marketing automation platforms (such as ActiveDemand, Act-On, Hubspot and MailChimp)
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in the planning, development, and execution of marketing automation programs
  • Agency Growth
    • Assist Director of Marketing Automation with documentation and reporting of marketing automation processes, programs, platform usage and procedures
    • Support adoption of marketing automation processes, programs and platform usage
    • Assist in tracking performance benchmarks across clients
    • Stay up to date on email best practices and emerging trends with marketing and sales-focused communications
  • Team Development
    • Participate in trainings on marketing automation and CRM marketing tactics and strategies
    • Identify and engage in learning opportunities for personal growth and to share with the team
    • Guide and train junior team members on marketing automation and CRM marketing tactics and strategies
    • Support agency, vertical and internal teams in achieving defined goals
    • Provide timely 360 review feedback for team members as requested

Key Performance Indicators & Measures of Success:

  • Client chargeability (90% minimum)
    • Meeting assigned deadlines and personal client commitments
  • Consistent delivery of high-quality work that impacts client results, relationships and retention
  • Client program result improvements (YoY – ROI/conversions, campaign-level metrics)
    • Client case study contribution

Role Requirements:

  • Demonstrated track record in marketing automation, from strategy development through execution, analysis and optimization
  • 3+ years of experience in digital marketing
  • Basic HTML – ability to edit source code
  • Basic database experience – ability to read and understand queries and relationships
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and processes to facilitate audience building preferred
  • Prior agency experience highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Bias for action and commitment to execution
  • Positive attitude and willingness to grow and embrace change in a fast-paced agency environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with Act-On, ActiveDemand, Mailchimp or Hubspot a plus
